Commitments and Responsibilities

CVPNS is partially funded by the Castro Valley Adult School.  This, combined with parent participation in the operation and maintenance of the preschool and in fundraising activities helps to keep tuition low.

As a member of the Castro Valley Parent Nursery School, each family's commitment includes the following minimum requirements:

Your Weekly Workday: Each family works one three-hour morning (for parents of AMers) or afternoon (for parents of PMers) per week teaching under the guidance of the professional Teacher-Director. (Parents who are able are encouraged to be available to substitute for other parents when needed.)

Monthly Meetings: The first Wednesday of the month is a mandatory "business and curriculum meeting" held at the Castro Valley Adult School from 7:00pm - 9:30pm. This time is used to discuss the budget, fundraisers, school event calendar and activities that require the membership to vote, as well as parent education topics presented by either the director or a guest speaker.

There are also board meetings during the year, which are held once a month from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

School Job: This may consist of accepting an elected position on the Board (usually alumni members) or being assigned a committee job.  Completion of assigned duties is necessary to maintain good standing.

Maintenance Hours: Four hours of school maintenance work are required annually from each family. Hours can be earned by participating in a variety of school-related tasks organized by the maintenance team.

Fundraising Events: Families are required to participate in the school's fundraising events. Efforts vary from year to year, but usually include a major theme event with a silent auction, and smaller events throughout the year.

General Requirements: Other requirements include, but are not limited to: arriving on time for each workday, obeying parking rules, providing healthy snacks when working in the kitchen, finding your own substitute when necessary, picking up children on time, and paying tuition before the 10th of each month.

Each family is provided with a complete description of membership requirements upon enrollment.
