The Castro Valley Parent Nursery School is a non-profit, parent participation preschool enrolling approximately 50 children ages 3 to 5 years. Parents who join the Co-op are also enrolled in a non-credit Castro Valley Adult School parent education class and laboratory. Please refer to the Declaration of Responsibilities and Professional Norms for more information on these mandatory classes and general school requirements.
All participating adult members will be subject to fingerprinting, must show proof of a current negative TB test, and provide proof of MMR and tDap before acceptance into the school. Children are also required to show proof of immunizations. Covid vaccination is required for all workday adults.
Six “parent-teachers” are scheduled to work each day, plus the Director, making the adult-child ratio better than one adult to five children. All workday adults help at the preschool by working an assigned day each week under the guidance of a professional teacher-director. Parents are responsible for preparing a weekly art project, craft, science project, or activity and rotate through five work areas on a six-week cycle.
The school’s goal is to create a nurturing, safe, enriched, play-based environment that allows the preschool child to develop the social and emotional skills necessary for success in kindergarten and beyond.
